a day of tolerance of the differences of others

In a world where you can be anything be kind is an excellent quote for everyday of the year.

We began the day and worked until recess in the computer lab working on powerpoint.  We have been exploring animals and their environments.  The last few weeks the students have been working on, or completed, Power Point presentations on a mammal, an insect, a reptile so today we worked on a bird.  The directions were as follows:

Power point on birds

There should be a title page on their powerpoint

Basic description (weight height, colour, fur/skin etc.)
What it eats
What eats it (predators)?
How does it protect itself (Claws, running, digging, hiding)?
What do young ones look like?
Habitat
What makes it great?
Is it a danger to Man?
Is it in danger from Man?
Some cool pictures and some cool facts.

The focus was on beauty of presentation. As always the class impressed me with their skills and their sense of design and originality.

After recess we began with silent reading followed by math then reading with expression and inflection to finish the book Tiger and Badger.

Reading with expression is an essential component of reading fluency. Reading fluency is a combination of reading with speed, accuracy, and proper expression. Expression is so important because it helps a reader comprehend and retain what he or she just read. Some of the most important components of expressive reading are vocal inflection, tone, tempo, and body language.

In the afternoon we started with reading, had buddies, did some math, read some Harry Potter and ended the day in the Gym with our p.e. specialist.  Great day everyone.  See you Monday...
