Wednesday January 4 2017

Notice:
Next Tuesday is grade 3 swimming
(grade 3's please bring bathing suits)
Grade 4 Swim team next Wednesday
(not related to grade 3 swim lessons)

We began the day with working on our Social Studies new unit of Explorers.  We have begun the unit with the Vikings who are believed to have spent at least one winter in North America 1000 years ago,  500 years before Columbus.

This was followed by computers where the students learned some advanced Word skills.  Using the school First Nations animals, Bear, Wolf, Raven or Salmon, the students took a line drawing and added text boxes and images in front of images to create a bear, wolf, etc project.

We continued the work after recess for 30 minutes  before going to Gym where we played a roaring game with and against Mrs. Chase's class.  We won, although Mrs. Chase's class said we cheated. Ha ha.

The students then went to music and had an extended lunch break because of the cool weather and the long recess break.  I have introduced beginning chess learning games to the class.  Pawn race today.  The goal is to get a pawn to the other side of the board first.

After lunch we had a book exchange in the library followed by 10 minutes of individual or group reading.  For math we reviewed and did a sudoku race, girls won.

We then had 'show and smell' before cleaning up to go home.

Great day everyone... See you all tomorrow.

Will post some pictures later.
