We began the day working on our spelling for the week:
missed, willing, balloon, spelling, pretty, still, off, added, letter, different, pattern, middle, Mississippi, zipper, carryStudents worked on sheets with various activities to memorize and familiarize themselves with this weeks spelling words.
After spelling we worked on Math. The students had to find the missing numbers and or signs.
After recess we did an art project where we talked about emotions and how to draw and express them. The students then drew and painted themselves showing fear. They used very wet paint and a straw to make it look like their hair was standing straight up. The results were amazing. Some students after they finished drawing themselves, tried the same technique for a scardy cat. So creative.
We had a special visitor come and so a science experiment / magic / Halloween presentation. Very cool, thank you.
After lunch we had silent reading followed by Read Aloud where the book was read up to the second last page where there was a dark, dark box.....
Then I stopped and the students had to say what they thought was in the dark dark box.......
watch the video at...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGF3oTiHd38
and try and guess what is in the box
their guesses and predictions (a great skill for advanced readers) were informed, creative and thoughtful....
The students then went to the gym with our P.E.teacher and learned and played games of skill and fun.
We ended off the day listening to the 1949 Halloween special Bing Crosby and the legend of Sleepy Hollow, while the students made Halloween Safety Posters...
thanks 'E" for the treats |
Have a safe Halloween everyone
