Tuesday Jan 5 Welcome Back Everyone

Notices.
Grade 3 swimming notice needs signing and returning soon
This is a great opportunity for all grade 3 students to receive free swimming lessons and experience something that might turn into a life long activity that living on the West coast on an island is of great value
Parents are putting on a bottle drive on the this Saturday the 9th. Please support and help any way that you can, as the money collected directly benefits your children.

Welcome Back Everyone.  It is great to see all the students again.

We began the day writing in our M.E. (morning exercise) about what animal, big small, real or imaginary would make the best class pet.  The students are going to make presentations to the class using PowerPoint to convince the rest of the class why the creature of their choice would make the best class pet.
The students have to consider things like:
a)    Why would it make a cool pet
b)    Food What it would eat (special diet)  Food supplies (a water dish, a food dish)
c)     How will we play with it?
d)    Where it would sleep (comfortable bed)
e)    Toys it would need to play
f)      How would we exercise it
g)    Health care -- like regular check-ups, shots, and flea medicine
h)    Boarding or petsitting on weekends or holidays
i)       Training or obedience lessons
j)       Supplies -- like a cage, tank, bed, some kind of shelter, a litter box
k)    Grooming:  brushing, bathing
l)       Special needs : It needs water
m) Things not to do:  (don’t feed it chocolate)
n)    Is it dangerous? How would we keep it safe?
o)    How much would it cost us to buy and  take care of it

This was followed by math.  We talked about the 3 times tables.  The students then started a race to finish 300 3x table questions.  The students are allowed to use a calculator, and 4 students could use their class money to buy a cheat sheet. ( In reality the large number of repetition of questions means they will actually memorize the three times tables,) even using a calculator because being a timed race they will eventually realize that it is quicker to memorize than use the calculator.  One student of course figured out that 3 x 4 would appear many times and once they looked up 3x4=12 on the calculator they filled out all the 3x4 questions on the sheet then moved on.

Some students are rich enough to buy cheat sheets, others need 2 calculators.

After recess the students went to the computer lab and turned their notes and M.E. into Power Point.  The students worked on their power point presentations until we went to music with Mrs. Awalt at 11:30

Spirit team making and putting up bottle drive posters.

After lunch we had a library period to get a new book.  We then returned to class for silent reading.  After silent reading we had show and tell...  which went on so long we only had 10 minutes left in the day so we played seven up.  Great to see everyone... I am away tomorrow at the dentist so have fun everyone. see you Thursday.
