Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend.
We began the day with spelling words for the week:
Foundation words
only, little, work, know, place, year, live, me, back, give, most, very, after, thing, our,
Building words
children, search, teacher, reached, think, together, with, where, everywhere, short, push, finish, sure, who, whole
After spelling I continued reading from the Harry Potter book one, while the students listened and drew images or wrote words from what was happening in the book.
After recess we worked on Science. We are beginning a short Energy unit. The topic question today was, "What do we need energy for?"
In Science we had a demonstration from 'K' who brought in a working volcano. We had talked about the difference between magma and lava last week. It is great to have students who take ideas we are talking about and continue it at home then return it to school.
After lunch we began with silent reading followed by Social Studies where we looked at traditional Mammoth Bone houses from the past. We have explored various types of traditional housing which show the ingenuity of humans to live in and use materials close at hand to live in even very hostile weather environments.
This was followed by gym where the students learned P.E. skills from our P.E. specialist.
