Monday Tuesday October 17 and 18

Notice:
Friday is a Pro-D day
no School

We began the day in the computer lab where the students worked in tux paint and Microsoft Word to draw and describe their favourite Halloween Costume ever.  Writing descriptions is what we are looking at this week.  Starting with something the students have to imagine, but still have a vivid picture of in their mind is, I hope, an easy place to begin. The fact they are interested and excited about the topic also helps.

We read from Giraffe and bird.  Students shared their like or dislike or connections to the story.

We continued working on socials and science studying salmon.  In socials we looked at the significance of salmon to the first nations peoples on the West coast. We talked about how to the first nations Salmon symbolizes  determination and persistence and also wealth and prosperity because the Salmon is the primary food source for the people of the Northwest Coast.

The students wrote some great salmon poems :

A bear eating a salmon
An eagle eating a salmon
A fox eating a salmon
Salmon spawning
Salmon dying

The river is full with salmon
A solitary salmon jumping
Salmon jumping through water falls
Salmon in shallow water
An eagle flies down onto the rocks

We do daily silent reading

Students worked on their spelling words for the week.  Test will be Thursday as Friday is a Pro-D day.

During show and share 'R' shared a book he is writing with little characters.  In the first book his characters are versing Godzilla.  'A' shared his tec-dec bike, 'E' shared his pet owliver the stuffy owl and finally E shared a giant ring of rainbow loom which stretched the length of the class.

We also do daily (if possible) physical activity in the gym.
