Pro-D day tomorrow No School
Wednesday Express with school news
Food for fun Pizza form
We began the day with our weekly spelling test. As well I again asked them to say what the Acronym WITS stands for. Good as we are coming up on anti bullying day. The test was marked and returned to the students to take home
This was followed by Library where the students learned about high interest books at their reading level. They watched video trailers made by other students to promote the books. We got lots of good information and ideas for reading series.
After recess we started silent reading followed by Show and Smell. & students shared stories, art, trinkets, videos they have made and other things of interest to them and other students in the class.
This was followed by Socials where we continued our first nations travel unit. Today we looked at a uniquely First nations invention the Snowshoe. In the winter it was difficult to get around in the deep snow. People used snowshoes to walk in the snow. Being from the Yukon I had a few snowshoe mishap stories to share. We talked how snowshoeing is actually called floating. Then we examined several shapes of snowshoes and made predictions about the type of snow in each area. The bigger and wider or rounder the softer the snow. The students then did a a one page report on the Snowshoe and designed their own snowshoe and gave it a name:
After lunch the students had P.E. where they are learning basketball skills.
This was followed by Science where we examined The Two main Forms of energy Potential and Kinetic. Kinetic Energy is energy that is in motion. Potential Energy is measured in the amount of "work" it does. Potential Energy is stored energy. We examined potential and kinetic energy looking at Bill Nye videos and of course the great inventor Willy Coyote vs Road runner. He is continually using potential energy in the hope of trapping the Road runner which is transferred into Kinetic energy as the trap is sprung.
I will post the pictures later. Have a great weekend everyone. See you Tuesday.
