I hope everyone had a good spring break. It is wonderful to see the coming of spring. We began our Wednesday writing about the Killer Whale and its status and importance to the First Nations culture. The students wrote about the belief that whales lived in villages under the ocean much like people. The students then worked on completing a multiplication table to get their minds back into basic facts that they might have forgotten in the two weeks off.
After Recess the students began with silent reading then I read the 2nd chapter of the first Harry Potter book and the students had to sum up the chapter in their own words and draw a picture to go with it.
We are beginning Explorers and the Fur trade in socials this week. For this unit the students will build their own trading posts and hand make things to sell to other students in the class and in the school. I have also introduced Wilson dollars, money with the students pictures on them. We will be using this money for rewards and currency in the classroom. With the money they can buy privileges and other things of value at school to them. They can earn money for completing quality work, for helping around the class and in the school. The students enjoy this unit and have a lot of fun making and selling things like the early Fur traders.
After lunch we began with P.E. then the students went to choir that are in choir. The non choir students listened to and did a report on Mozart.
Great day everyone... think about your trading post design and what crafts you can make.
I will put pictures up later...
