Reminder: Skating on Tuesday, January 13, 1:45 - 2:35.

 

We need a few more parent volunteers to walk with us to Pearkes Arena and to help tie skates.

On Monday, students rotated through 6 Science stations to learn about Sound. Some stations had experiments, while other stations had materials to play with and try out. Afterwards students wrote about what they learned. Everyone had a fun time and learned how sound travels, how sound can be made, found instruments (common items from around your house), pitch, and vibrations.

Christmas Concert

Dress rehearsal tomorrow (Wednesday) during the school day.

Concert: Wednesday, December 17 at 6 pm.

Please be in your classroom by 5:45 pm.

There is limited seating at this performance. 2 guests per student please.

Concert: Thursday, December 18 at 1:30 pm.

Lots of seating available for guests.

On Wednesday and Thursday, students please wear jeans, a collared shirt if you have one, a winter scarf, and a jean or leather (or fake leather) jacket if you have one. You may also wear a longer skirt.

Regular Friday, Spelling, Writing, Reading, Buddies And Christmas concert preparing

The Winer concert is on Wed evening and Thursday afternoon... as well there is a Wed all class rehearsal in the day.  We hope everyone can get a chance to see it but space is limited and one viewing is probably all the space we have.  

Incredible Rainbow on Tuesday!

In Science with Mrs. S., we are studying light and this week we learned all about colour, how Isaac Newton discovered (in the 1660s) that white light is actually made up of the colour spectrum like we see in a rainbow, how prisms work, and why white t-shirts feel cool in the sun and black t-shirts feel hot in the sun.
On Tuesday, in between rainstorms, there was the most incredible rainbow over top of our school field. I happened to go outside at lunchtime and saw it. The students told me later on during the lunch hour, there was a double rainbow too. This was incredibly timely and relevant because for the last 3 days, we have been learning about rainbows, light, and colour. Ask your child how and why a rainbow is formed.

 In Math, we continued with Geometry, with students working on challenge/problem solving questions, like making several equilateral triangles from 6 equal lengths of straw.

In Music, students continue to practise for the Winter Concert.

Students also made some stained glass-like art for our classroom windows that looks colourful and beautiful from the outside!

It's Not a Stick, mini book, P.E. and Assembly

Students bring small amounts of money

to buy gifts for OTHER people.

After recess we began the morning reading the book "It's Not A Stick"  by Antoinette Portis.  It starts with someone asking "Hey be careful with that stick," to a little pig with a stick in his hand.  He says it's not a stick and the options are endless—whether it's conducting an orchestra, painting a masterpiece, or slaying a dragon — The students had to then write a similar story titled "It's Not A Box." The idea is to take an ordinary object and let imagination take over and the magic begin.   The students first did a planning page in their M.E. When they finished they will turn their planning page into a mini book and may be even get a chance to make a movie of their finished product.

Many of our Students left to serve at 11:30 or 11:40.

During the lunch recess a few members of our class went to the library and made hand made cards, an activity sponsored by many Tillicum teachers.

After Lunch we had silent reading for 10 minutes then we went to gym.  After gym we had a short period of time so I showed them Calving and Hobbes where he uses a large box to replicate himself for hilarious results.

The students were given time to finish their mini book and planning page then at 2:00 we went to the assembly.  Awards assembly was for the odd numbered divisions.
